York, UK - Overview
York is a historical city situated in the Yorkshire, England. The history of the city is expanded over 2000 years. York was founded by Eboracum in 71 AD and it was made capital of the Britannia Inferior. The Roman Empire was governed from York. The city of York consists of Unitary Authority Area.
Archeological evidences indicate that the city has been inhabited in the 6000-7000 BC. In the Roman times, York was occupied by the tribes known as Brigantes. The Ninth Legion conquered the Brigantes and constructed a fortified wall and fortress in the city. The fortress covered 60 acres of land and it provided the accommodations to more than 6000 soldiers.
In 1190, York served for the Jewish settlement. In the Tudor times, the city experienced a decline. In 1839, railway system was inaugurated in York, which led to the industrial development in the area.
York got the status of county in 1889. The city of York is governed by a mayor and 47 councilors. There are three major political parties like Liberal Democrats, Conservative Party and Labour Party.
York as serve as a charming tourism spot. There are a number of attractions sights of internets in the city including York Art Gallery, Merchant Adventurers' Hall, Yorkshire Museum, Museum Gardens, National Railway Museum, St William's College and Clifford's Tower.

The academy of Academy of St Olave's, St Margaret's and Walmgate hosts a number of competitions, broadcasts and live musical performances throughout the year.
Football, Rugby and horseracing are the popular sports of the city. York hosts a number of sporting events like horseracing, football matches and rugby tournaments every year.
Christianity is the fastest growing religion in York. 74% of the residents reported themselves as Christians. There is also a mosque and an Islamic center in York.
A number of transportation options are available for the Yorkers. York has a significant position for the transportation services including road transport, river transport, rail transport and air transport.

York is a beatuful, lovely place in the middle of Yorkshire.
