Jacksonville, NC US - Overview

Jacksonville is the business center of Onslow County, North Carolina,USA. The population of this bustling city is about 72,254 and it is the home of Marine Corps Air Station New River and the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. There was a time when the Jacksonville community used to be recognized mainly for the farming activities but gradually it made a mark in the industrial revolution. They have banks, cultural centers, retail outlets and everything else that a lively city like it should have. In 1992, the city received the award of All-America City from National Civic League. The involvement of the citizens in the governing system fetched this award to Jacksonville.

Jacksonville developed in the year of 1941 after the foundation of Camp Lejeune. This city provides its residents with all facilities necessary to ensure a healthy and comfortable lifestyle. The mayor and his department look after the maintenance of the city. There are numerous recreational centers and well-decorated parks for children and adults. The efficient police department takes care of the residents and tourists visiting Jacksonville for pleasure trips or business endeavors. The citizens of Jacksonville are quite responsible and conscious of their rights. They take the initiative to actively participate in the voting process.   

Jacksonville can be a great option for city breaks. Jacksonville Landing is an enormous steel and glass complex that features some finest restaurants, more than 65 shops and many other attractions. This complex hosts numerous colorful festivals and events.

The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens has a rich collection of artifacts from 2000 BC. Jacksonville Zoo has a natural environment featuring some rare species of animals like red wolves and black bears.

 Ritz Theatre and LaVilla Museum are two of the most popular cultural centers of this city. There are many other tourist attractions in Jacksonville like St. Augustine, Fort Caroline national Museum, Lightner Museum and Stephen Foster State Folk Culture Center
