Chihuahua Sights and Landmarks Guide, Mexico

Despite not being known for its touristic destinations, Chihuahua is worthwhile to go visit.  It is actually a very interesting city with an extensive history that is crucial to understand in the forming of the Mexican states.    The reason why much of its tourism has suffered is because the majority of the colonial buildings that decorated the city were purposely destroyed in order to meet the demands of a growing city by widening roads and building newer types of edifices.  Nevertheless, the city of Chihuahua was able to conserve a considerable amount of its charm despite this destruction of the city.

Chihuahua has many great estates and neighborhoods to visit.  Some estates are museums that allow you to see what Mexican upper class life was like, some have been converted into park grounds while others are still residences but very interesting to view because of the conserved architecture that remained.

The area of Avenida Zarco has houses from the pre revolutionary era of Mexico that many people enjoy for its architecture.  Others enjoy going to the Mansion Terrazas, Mansion Quinta Gameros, Mansion Creel, Mansion Quinta Carolina.  The latter is currently being restored due to its decrepit state while the Quinta Gameros residence has been converted into the City Museum for the Decorative Arts.

If you enjoy museums, you can then make your way over to the Museum of Contemporary Art Casa Redonda which used to be the workshop for the National Railways of Mexico.  You can also go to the Museum of Religious Art which is located in the Chihuahua Cathedral and where you can see many pieces of Baroque Art.

Mexico is a very religious country therefore you will find many churches.  In addition to this cathedral, you can also visit the Church of Santa Rita and the Temple of San Francisco.

Other places of interest situated in Chihuahua, Mexico are the following touristic destinations:

Federal Palace of Chihuahua and the Dancing Fountains, El Palomar, the Central park of Chihuahua, Plaza de Armas and the Torre Legislativa de Chihuahua and The Government Palace
