Kingston Sights and Landmarks Guide, Jamaica
There are many Kingstons around the world, but there is only one Kingston, Jamaica. Many people may have overlooked all of the wrong doing in Kingston but have not given it a chance to become a great commercial and cultural capital. The one and only Bob Marley changed this. Much of Jamaica’s tourism is due to this single man. People come from all around the world to understand the Rasta life and where he was coming from. Therefore, you will notice various touristic destinations dedicated to the Reggae legend.
One such destination is the Bob Marley Museum conveniently located on Hope Avenue which is symbolic. There are also a variety of places to listen to live reggae music and to party the night away. Such great Kingston clubs include the Asylum and the Quad.
For a look into Jamaican life, past and present, you may want to go to the Devon House which shows visitors the life of the rich in Jamaica through this Mansion museum. You can then go to the Institute of Jamaica which more accurately portrays the life of the average Jamaican as well as its history, the West Indian’s history and a variety of art from all periods of Jamaican history with special exhibitions being displayed.
If you like art, then you may also want to go to the National Gallery which has more modern art by Jamaican artists. Another historical spot to go to is the Port Royal Area that used to be a frequent lingering spot for pirates during the 1600s.
If you are traveling with kids than you can go to the Hope Zoo to see some animals and then over to the Hope Botanical Gardens which also happens to be the biggest one in the entire Caribbean with some of the most exotic flowers of the region. For some shopping essentials you can go to the Coronation Market and the Kingston Crafts Market for local art to take back home.
Other Kingston destinations include the following Jamaican sights:
Hellshire Beach, Lime Kay, Blue Mountain, Jamaican Blue Mountain, Coffee Factory, Strawberry Hills, Gap Café
