New Delhi happens to be the capital of India and one of the most happening metropolitan cities of India. New Delhi is spread over an area of around 43 square kilometers. New Delhi was planned and designed by Edwin Lutyens who was one of the famous British Architect of 13th Century.
New Delhi is part of north India and Aravalies were once part of New Delhi but as of now only the Delhi Ridge is what is left. Floodplains of Yamuna River and Delhi Ridge are two most prominent geographical features of the capital of India. New Delhi has been vulnerable to earthquakes in the past and the major reason of these earthquakes is that New Delhi lies in seismic zone fourth.
Climate of New Delhi hasn’t been that lovable for the locals as well as for the visitors. Temperature can reach the heights of 40 degree Celsius and fall down to as low as 4 degree Celsius. New Delhi experiences summer in between the months of April and October while winters are between the months of November and February. Monsoon arrives during summer is and average annual rainfall in New Delhi is around 700 mm. Mostly, this rain pours from July to August.
New Delhi has its own municipal government and it does not come under any state. New Delhi is part of National Capital Territory of Delhi (which is usually called as NCT in short).
New Delhi comprises of two main sections namely the Janpath and the Rajpath. Janpath, which was known as Queen’s Way during British rule, starts at the Connaught Place and ends up at Shantipath. Both these pathways cut at right angles. Rajpath, which was known as King’s Way during the British Rule, starts from the Rashtrapati Bhavan and ends up with India Gate. Rajpath is the road on which the President travels on the occasion of celebrating India’s Independence.
The mass rapid transit system of New Delhi is the Delhi Metro which has been judged as a world class metro service. It is one of the best in Asia and plans are underway to connect cities like Gurgaon and Noida to Delhi through the Metro Lines.
