New Delhi became the capital of India after 1911. Before this, Calcutta was the capital of India, but due to the contribution of New Delhi in politics the British government took the decision of shifting the capital to New Delhi as it was easier to govern India from a place which was somewhat in the center of the country instead of a city which was located in the far east of the country.
