The city of Lanzhou (also known by the postal map spelling of Lanchow) is also a prefecture level city for People’s Republic of China (just like most of the other cities of China are prefecture level city). The city of Lanzhou is also the capital for Province of Gansu.

The city of Lanzhou is located around 1600 meters above sea level and extends over an area of around 15000 kilometer square. The city is surrounded by mountains from the north and the southern sides. Mount Pingliang, Qilian Ranges, are Mount Kongtong the major mountains which cover the borders of the city from South and North. The River Yellow flows from the western side to the eastern side of the city.

The climate of Lanzhou is semi dry due to the presence of water bodies and mountains around the area. Still the city of Lanzhou is counted in top 30 most polluted cities of this planet. Mostly the Lanshan mountain range is not visible from the city due to the pollution in air. This is enough to explain the amount of pollution which has engulfed the city of Lanzhou. Two major reasons for the pollution in the air of Lanzhou are various industries which run 24*7 in the city and huge dust storms due to the neighboring dust storms.

The city of Lanzhou is divided into four districts and three counties so that the administration of the city becomes an easier job.

The DP of Lanzhou was at number 139th spot when compared to the 659 cities in People’s Republic of China. The city of Lanzhou is full of natural resources like nickel, silver, gold, zinc, coal, clay, manganese, and dolomite. The city of Lanzhou also excels in the generation of hydroelectric power supply, as many hydroelectric power stations are part of Lanzhou.

Agriculture is also the part of Lanzhou with the city producing loads of beans, vegetables, spring wheat, melon, oil boiling, tobacco, and peaches. The city of Lanzhou is also famous in complete China for the growth of roses.

All kinds of transport facilities are available for the locals as well as for the tourists who hit the city of Lanzhou. The Lanzhou Airport is located around 70 kilometers from the city center. Railway lines connect the city to major cities like Shanghai, Beijing, and Baotou.
