Short trip to the Duisburg Zoo, Germany

The Duisburg Zoo is located in the northern city of Duisburg wich is one of the cities of Germany and is one of the biggest and most beautiful zoos in Germany. The Duisburg Zoo is crossed by means of a freeway, so that it is divided into the east and the west part, but they are linked by a bridge. The Zoo was opened in 1934, was closed at the beginning of the Second World War but it was reopened in 1946.In 1965 it has added a dolphinarium.

The main tourist attraction in this garden is the Koala bears and dolphins but the Zoo has also other animals beeing aprecieted as well by the tourists such as a collection of seals of Madagascar (wich are at the second place in the world by size).The Zoo has an area of 15.5 hectares and hosts 2000 animals.

Duisburg History

Because of the constructive geographic location, a government called palatinate was instituted. Soon after that, Duisburg was accorded the royal charter of a free city. During this time, Duisburg became a member of the Hanseatic League. In 1120, the city wall was constructed.
