Kahului, HI US - Sights: Glimpse of the Harbor City
Kahuli, the largest city of the Hawaiian island group of Maui, is located on the west coast of the Pacific Ocean. This city is a commercial and retail hub for people residing in and around Maui.
The city is acclaimed for its large malls with multitude of restaurants, cinema halls, shops and shopping complexes offering wondrous shopping experience. Kahului is a centrally placed city and a few kilometers from it leads to the beaches on the northwest coast popular for snorkeling, fishing, water skiing and lots of other water sport activities. Kahului is a recognized destination for some astounding views.
Kanaha Beach Country Park
Located about a mile from the airport, Kanaha Beach Country Park offers an array of marine sports like windsurfing, water skiing, swimming, snorkeling and fishing. Kanaha Beach Park, geographically, is known for its innumerable beaches, embayed coastline, forests, dunes, wetlands, headlands, coves, surf beaches, streams, ponds and Open Ocean. The services provided at the beach include public restrooms, camping, barbeque, cycle path, picnic table, shower, nature areas and many other amenities.
Maui Art and Cultural Centre
Established in 1994, Maui Art and Cultural Centre is a community place where distinguished artists from all over the world exhibit their talent. The local residents gather here for celebrations and festivals. It acts as a community centre too where classes for all age groups are conducted on plentiful topics. Around 1800 events like plays, symphonies, hulas, music and theater productions, dance, drama and drumming are conducted throughout the year.
Kanaka Pond Waterfowl Sanctuary
In 1971, Kanaka Pond Waterfowl Sanctuary was nominated as a national natural landmark. It is a residence for two Hawaiian endangered bird species, “stilt’ & “coot’. During winters, Canadian migratory geese are also seen here. Situated close to the airport, this wild life sanctuary has put a ban on swimming and fishing. A small parking lot service is provided and it has no entry fee.
Alexander and Baldwin sugar museum
The historic town of Puunene is home to this museum, which depicts history of sugar plantation since mid 1800 when sugar cane plantation and extracting sugar in the factory was a way of life for the locals. There are artifacts, photos, murals, functional model of machineries and an authentic plantation scale model displayed in the museum. The entry fee is minimal and the experience is enlightening.
