Burbank Sights and Landmarks Guide, California
Burbank has its share of historic sites and cultural venues, however, Burbank sights that draw hordes of crowds every year have much more to do with the city’s economic past and present.
Burbank Sights and Economic Instruments of the Yesteryears
After an initial period of acceptance as a chiefly agricultural and ranching land, manufacturing became the mainstay of Burbank’s economy. By the 1930s, top names (in different manufacturing sectors) like Andrew Jergens Company, McNeill and Libby Canning Company, Northrop Aircraft Corporation, The Lockheed Company and The Moreland Company set up their factories at Burbank. Various products, from soaps and furniture were being manufactured at different Burbank factories and diverse means of transportation like trucks and aircrafts were rolling out of the Burbank manufacturing units. Many of these facilities do not operate now but the abandoned facilities are named among prominent Burbank sights and so they continue to be Burbank’s economic instruments that pull huge tourists.
Burbank Sights and Present-day Economic Instruments
A number of media and entertainment companies are stationed in Burbank. Cartoon Network, NBC Universal, Nickelodeon, Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros Entertainment are a few. Some of these companies have their H.Q. in the area and some have their production facilities. Although public viewing is not allowed in all these studios, conducted tours of some are available. Of course, visitors will need to make advance bookings.
Apart from the studios, a number of films and TV-series have been filmed at different Burbank locations and these sites have become popular Burbank sights in their own right.
Burbank Sights – Other Attractions
Apart from the abandoned factory-sites, the regional airport, the Hollywood-Burbank Airport, stands witness to the times when Burbank had played a central role in the field of aviation. No wonder that the airport once used by aviation pioneers like Amelia Earhart, Howard Hughes and Wiley Post is today one of Burbank’s topmost attractions.
Among Burbank’s other attractions is the Burbank City Hall, which is the seat of the municipal government of Burbank. Beside its architecture, the Hall has been rendered unique by its art deco detailing and has found a place on the National Register of Historic Places alongside Burbank’s main post-office.
The Burbank area also has huge malls and world-class theatres. Burbank’s Creative Arts Centre is another must-see attraction for the tourists; it is unique in the sense that it arranges classes for the viewers, side by side showcasing works of art.
Griffith Park – the city’s green haven and its observatory along with the Gene Autry Museum are among Burbank sights you should tour with your child.
