Peterborough is a cathedral city in the United Kingdom. It is situated near the bank of River Nene. Historical finding indicate that the area of Peterborough was inhabited in the Bronze Age. The remains of the Bronze Age can be seen at Flag Fen archaeological site. The Anglo-Saxon and the Romans have also been ruled over this area. In the beginning of the 19th century, Peterborough witnessed the industrial revolution, which led to the increase in population of the area.
The manufacturing industries dominated the city, which attract many employers like Peterborough Development Corporation, HMP Peterborough, Perkins Engines and Opportunity Peterborough. The railway system was also established in the same time. The railway line connects many different cities like York, Bristol and Manchester etc. During the time of Civil War, Peterborough was divided into the two parts i.e. the supporter of Long Parliament and the supports of King Charles.
