Basel: One of the Best Tourist Destinations
Basel is gifted with so many places that are both interesting and enjoyable. The places in Basel consist of modern architecture, museums, historical churches and natural scenery. The city is well worth a visit for the attractive old town with its fine buildings.
One of the world’s greatest art gallery is located in Basel. The Kunstmuseum has painting collections from the 15th and 16th century. The largest collection of paintings by Holbein is also here as well as some of Picasso’s paintings.
Another museum that must be visited is Tinquely Museum where works of Jean Tinquely who was a famous iron sculptor are exhibited. Beyeler Foundation, which was named after Ernst Beyeler, one of the world’s most renowned gallery owner and collector, has displayed important 20th century paintings as well as classical modern works with some 25 tribal art objects from Africa, Alaska and Oceania.
Marktplatz has served as the heart of Basel throughout its history. This is where you will find the town hall. Marktplatz is where you can go every day to buy fruits, vegetables and flowers. Fish Market Square is located in Basel’s business quarter and this is where fishmongers keep the day’s catch fresh for the market. Fischmarktbrunnen serves as the focal point of the square. Holbeinbrunnen is a fountain from the 16th century which describes a bagpipe player. A fountain which features nine animated mechanical figures is located in front of the municipal theater. This is the Carnival Fountain constructed by Jean Tinquely.
Dreilandereck, which extends to the Rhine River makes for a trip that you must take to taste unspoiled and natural scenery. Spalentor is one of the boundaries of the medieval section of Basel. This 14th century powerful Spalen gate has twin battlement towers on the central part, roofed with glazed tiles. Another city gate is St. Alban-Tor which is seen among the remnants of the city’s medieval fortifications and this 13th century gate is surrounded by a beautiful garden.
The Zoological Garden in Basel serves as a home for almost 6000 animals and almost a million people visit the garden every year. This is the most frequently visited tourist spot in Switzerland.
There are still so many places that you can explore in Basel and writing them down will not be enough. Basel, Switzerland is definitely one of the best tourist destination that will not just make you relax and enjoy but will make you learn a lot about their culture and history.

The Middle Bridge connects lessor Basel with main Basel. In the medieval days this bridge was half wood and half stone. The reason they did this was because the people who lived in lessor Basel were considered to be poor and on the side...
