Cartagena Sights and Landmarks Guide, Spain

The city of Cartagena is known for being seaport in Spain. Industrial developments are at work in the city to further expand commerce. Cartagena Sights, with a mix of old and new landmarks, remain to be some of the most visited tourist attractions.

Cartagena Sights – Museums

The tour of a place is never complete without visiting its museums. Cartagena is fortunate to have some of the best museums in the region as found in Cucuta Sights. These venues boast of interesting archaeological finds and artworks.

National Maritime Archaeology Museum. Some of the most stunning underwater treasures, which are of archaeological heritage, can actually be found in this museum. It also houses a life-sized Roman merchant ship. Tourists can enjoy looking at the displays showing the maritime history of Cartagena especially during the Phoenician and Roman period. Some interesting exhibits found in the museum include a collection of seven scale models of ancient vessels and an accurate reproduction of a galley.

Cartagena Roman Theatre Museum. This landmark is a remnant of an old Roman theatre. It also serves as a museum for archaeological artifacts. Visits to this place include a guided tour of the theatre.

Cartagena Sights – Landmarks and Cultural Sites

Part of Cartagena’s history and culture is reflected through the landmarks and sites which stood the test of time. The landmarks of Cartagena are a mixe of ruins and majestic buildings found standing inside the city.

The Ancient Cathedral. This cathedral was built in 1250 under the command of Alfonso X in honor of Santa Maria la Vieja (Saint Mary, the older). Though, destroyed during the civil war, huge walls and columns of the cathedral still stand and can be marveled by visitors.

Arsenal Gate. Built in the 18th century, this is the only remaining entrance to the walls of Cartagena. Besides the wall, a clock tower, which was built in 1865, can be seen.

Peral Submarine. In a part of the city, a gigantic submarine invented by Isaac Peral in 1884 can be seen standing. The submarine was built in Cadiz and was used in 1888.

Cartagena Sights – Sun and Beaches

Cartagena is situated near the Mar Menor and other sea scenic spots. This makes the combination urban and sun ideal for tourists.

La Manga del Mar Menor. This is a resort town in Murcia. A part of it is under the city of Cartagena. La Manga is an ideal place for people who are into water sports. Water skiing, sailing, windsurfing and catamarans are provided by the resort.

Cala Cortina. Aside from being one of the favorite places to unwind, Cala Cortina Beach is a place where one can see the city. On its shores, there is a lighthouse that can be visited.

Cartagena Sights is a wonderful fusion of the ancient and the contemporary. They are appealing to every tourist visiting the city.
