Daegu Sights and Landmarks Guide, South Korea
A mix of tradition and modernity best describes Daegu City. Travelers from all around the world are attracted by its amusement parks, temples, pagodas, and sky-scrapers situated beside ancient buildings.
Frequently visited by locals and visitors alike, is the Mt. Apsan Park located south of the city of Daegu. This park is the largest of its kind in the city which offers a variety of recreational and leisure facilities. The park covers a land area of 16,952,371 square meters in Mount Apsan which means “Front Mountains”. It is also well known for sports facilities such as a golf course, swimming pool, body-building gym, as well as its hiking trails. Aside from that, they also offer a horse-back riding ground open for kids and adults, an archery ground, a library, and a youth camping ground.
If you are more interested in nature, then you don’t need to look further since the Mt. Apsan Park also gained fame through its display of a variety of plants and animals. In fact, it houses around 108 families and over 542 species of plants with an enormous number of Oak trees reaching 100,000 units. Woodpeckers and Pheasants of amazing colors are the usual stars when visitors take a peak of the Park’s wildlife.
Other attractions that the Park offers include a Memorial Tower built to honor the soldiers and civilians who gave their lives for their nation, the Museum of Victory, a line of very old temples; 8 different valleys; and the 20 medicinal water areas.
If you are one of those persons who want to experience serenity and quietness, as well as to avoid the large crowds in the city, take the city bus number 601 found at the Seobu Bus Terminal then hop on to another bus number 66-2 in Hyeonpung terminal and you will be taken to a temple located in the valley of Mt. Biseulsan called the Yugasa Temple. This temple was founded in 827AD by a Buddhist Teacher named Doseongguksa. This place is frequented by tourists for a quiet meditation and to have a peak at its beautiful sight surrounded by rock cliffs. This temple also houses the famous three-story Pagoda which was moved in the year 1920 in the front yard of the temple.
Other attractions that you don’t want to miss would be the Shrines of famous families in Daegu, the Gasan Mountain Fortress, and the Buddha statues located in other temples around the city of Daegu. Visit them and you are guaranteed to have an interesting time.
