Legaspi Sights and Landmarks Guide, Philippines

It would serve as no surprise if we see a history buff in Region 5 of the Philippine islands. The Bicol Region houses the famous Mayon Volcano, deemed to be the country’s most active volcano. It has sustained its splendid cone structure that has never failed to awe locals and foreigners alike. Besides the Mayon volcano, there are several other spots worth visiting in the region, most particularly in the city of Legaspi.

Learning more about history would never be as boring as it usually is in school or at home. Some hands-on, to-see-is-to-believe experience is better than discovering about Legaspi in the books. A trip to the Cagsawa Ruins will cause the beholder to be washed over with nostalgia, as these remains of a church would remind one of the distressful eruption of the beautiful Mayon way back in 1814. The area is approximately a fifteen-minute travel west of the city, and is said to be best visited at dawn so one can see the crest of its beauty unfold. Nearby also stands the Cagsawa National Museum.

Moreover, just around the area is the Victory Village, which is a bucolic bamboo village. The village is built on bamboo stilts with the black sand of the bay enveloping it.

Other history representations are the Liberty Bell, which is made of bronze and installed by the liberation forces of America; the Japanese Tunnel, which was an arsenal used during the second World War; and the Bicol Heritage Park, where one can find the statue of General Simeon Ola.

The city is also an ideal getaway for the nature lover or the science lover. The Albay Park and Wildlife houses 347 animals of 75 different species, and also serves as a picnic grove. The Kapuntukan Hill allows one to have a view of the entire Legaspi port and is also known as the Sleeping Lion Hill. The Liñon Hill serves as quarters of PHIVOLCS.

Legaspi City also serves as a jump-off point to several attractions in the region. Sorsogon and Catanduanes are just a few of them, where one can observe the world’s largest migration of whale sharks. These two provinces also boast of stunning white sand beaches that tourists love to visit over and over again.

All in all, the grandeur of Legaspi is incomparable to what other towns and cities have to offer. It will always leave a lasting and exceptional mark.
