Davao Sights and Landmarks Guide, Philippines
Going to Davao is very exciting and full of anticipation. The sights that you will experience are also equally exciting and worth the trip.
Foremost is the famous Mt. Apo. considered as the highest peak of the Philippines at 10311 ft. above sea level. It stands as a wonder between North Cotabato Davao City, Davao del Sur, Agusan del Sur and the Misamis Oriental. Aside from the magnificent mountain range, Mt. Apo has a volcano at its top. You can also enjoy nature’s assets at its best around Mt. Apo such as sulfur pillars, steaming blue lake in a breathtaking view, geysers and rainwater lakes.
The Mt. Apo area is also rich in rivers such as the Sibulan Baruring and Marbel Rivers. There are also several big and small waterfalls around the lake of the mountain ranges.
Next is another famous one because of what it contains The Philippine Eagle Nature Center. This is an eagle-breeding center located in Malagos Calinan, Davao City. It features the Philippine eagle or what was once known as the monkey-eating eagle. This Philippine symbol is considered one of the endangered species today. The Philippine eagle can only be found in the mountain ranges of the Sierra Madre in Eastern Luzon and in the heavy forests of Mindanao. These birds are being nurtured and watched here because of the fear of becoming extinct due to the rampant hunting. The majestic bearing and the large size of this powerful bird makes it very appealing to bird hunters.
For relaxation and fun go to Pearl Farm Beach Resort. Lying in the secluded Samal Island, Pearl Farm Beach Resort is a perfect relaxation spot. This used to be the 11 ha Pearl Farm before filled with thousands of oysters from Sulu just to be cultured for the precious pink, white and gold colored pearls. Just like its name, it really is a gem to treasure and exciting getaway where guests can taste nature’s wealth. The houses around the resort resemble the stilt dwellings of the Samal tribes in Sulu. You can enjoy fish watching during the day and the monotonous yet soothing sea breeze at night in one of these houses. Water in a jar with a coconut shell water dipper always awaits you at the doorsteps for washing away the sand after a day on the beach.
The Eden Mountain Resort is a nature park ideal for the nature lovers. Cool climate, natural surroundings, abundant forest are the characteristic of this mountain resort. Its location is very favorable for horseback riding, camping, nature tripping or hiking and bird watching. It overlooks the beautiful city as well as the sea, indeed a good place to relax and get in touch with nature.
Another resort is Malagos Garden Resort. Full of tall trees and different kinds of rare orchid species, this is a place that you should not miss while in Davao. Aside from these treasures, it also offers the following to enjoy: golf driving, range horseback riding, a playground, fish ponds, butterfly sanctuary, a restaurant, cottages and campsites.
The Crocodile Park, a famous haven of crocodiles, is the one and only of its kind in the region.
Davao also has religious places like: the Shirine of the Holy Infant Jesus of Prague has great retreat facilities for those who like to get in touch with God and rest from the pressures of the city. Another is the San Pedro Cathedral which was built way back the time when Davao was first conquered by Spaniards. Original religious artifacts can still be viewed on its preserved altar located on the right wing of the building.
The Davao Museum which displays tribal art and other tribal artifacts, will give you the opportunity to know more about the Davaoenos and appreciate more of their culture and humble beginnings.
Go to Talomo Beach for a great relaxation experience. WWII sunken warships are also the features of this resort.
These treasures will surely make you desire to go back again and again to wonderful Davao.
