The city of Veracruz is one of the very rich towns in terms of history and commercial trading. The port of this city is also one of the busiest ports when compared to most of the ports in Mexico. As of now the port has become the largest trading port in the country of Mexico and due to it the economy as well as the tourism industry has increased exponentially.
As per the census of 2005, the population for the city of Veracruz was around 444000 inhabitants. On the other hand, the population for the municipality of Veracruz as per the same census was around 512000 inhabitants. Out of these around 60 percent were Mestizos, 15 percent were Blacks, 15 percent were Indians, 9 percent were of mixed races, and lastly around 1 percent were immigrants from various countries. The municipality of Veracruz stretches over an area of around 250 square kilometers.
The name of the state in which the city of Veracruz is located is also Veracruz. This is the reason why the city of Veracruz is many times called Puerto de Veracruz. The locals who live in this city of Veracruz are called as Jarochos. The city of Veracruz has also been tagged as “4 times heroic city” as it had resisted 4 different invasions of which two were attacks from France and other two were attacks from United States of America.
The city of Veracruz is famous for its traditional music the city has successfully preserved since its historical years. Some famous types in this city of Veracruz are comparsa, danzón, and marimba bands. Besides the exciting cultural music, the city of Veracruz has also successfully preserved an equally exciting dance tradition. It is the mix of this traditional music and dance which makes the culture of Veracruz rich as well as exciting for the foreign tourists.
The busiest tourist hot spot is its port but this doesn’t mean that the city has nothing else in other parts of the city. Many other sections in and around the city of Veracruz have many natural tourist hot spots, various landscapes, many beaches, and multiple archeological sites which make the city of Veracruz a must visit whenever you are in the country of Mexico.
