Chetumal Sights and Landmarks Guide, Mexico
The city of Chetumal is amongst those rare cities that have almost every kind of attraction that different tourists look for. The city is famous for various historical monuments, cultural festivals, natural landscapes, beautiful beaches, intelligent architecture, and of course the modern city which looks no less than a metropolitan city. With so much to offer, the city of Chetumal has something for every kind of tourist and hence it has quickly become an important tourist hot spot in the country of Mexico.
The Museum of Chetumal is housed in one of the oldest monuments of this city and thus is itself a famous attraction due to the beautiful architecture and historical design. This museum has been successful in preserving some the rare manuscripts and sculptures, which are a proof to the awesome history of this city. This building is situated within the famous Quintana Roo Institute and hence is a place to gain more knowledge for the students of the institute. Photographs, historical weapons, and beautiful furniture from the past regularly attract many tourists towards itself.
Kohunlich is one of the most researched sights amongst all the historical sights in the state of Quintana Roo. It is located around 70 kilometers from the city of Chetumal but yet it is regularly visited by almost every tourist that hits the city of Chetumal. It is also important in terms of politics of this state due to the presence of Ya’axana, an important historical monument.
Some other buildings located in its proximity are Plaza de las Estelas, Acropolis, and Temple of Masks (which is called as Templo de los Mascarones). These monuments are religiously very important for the locals of the city. You will also find some beautiful houses around the area and theories say that governors of those days used to live in those houses. The most famous of them are Pixa’an and 27 Steps.
Dzibanche is another very important historical tourist hot spot in the city of Chetumal. This monument reflects the intelligence which the architects of city used to posses during those historical years.
Some other tourist hot spots in the city of Chetumal are Bacalar, Museum of Maya Culture, Cenote Azul, and Casinos in Belize etc.
