Montego Bay Travel Guide, Jamaica
The grand dame of island resorts, Montego Bay, though welcoming a great wave of visitors, has saved its own identity.
Mo Bay, as it is called, is the most cosmopolitan of Jamaican resorts, its main enticement being the array of luxurious hotels as Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon, Round Hill, and Tryall. Moreover, Mo Bay is a blooming business-and-commercial center, it functions as the main market town for most of western Jamaica, and it has even its own airport, Donald Sangster International.
It may sound interesting, that –as in most of Jamaica– what often matters more here is not the area, but the resort you choose. If you are going to honeymoon, it is recommended to go to one of the Sandals properties. If you chose to have fun with the jet-set, any villa at Round Hill waits for you.
Mo Bay may be not the best area for those who seek authentic or traditional Jamaica, but it is an excellent choice, if you are fond of tours and cruises and exciting adventures!
The Hilton High Day Tour includes a round-trip transportation on a scenic drive through historic plantation areas, from which you can go and visit Seaford Town or St. Leonards village.
Croydon Plantation can be visited on a half-day tour on Tuesday and Friday, and by cruise-ship on Wednesday.
Jamaica, especially the area around Montego Bay is plenty of great houses. Though most of them are closed to the public, exchanging some money with the groundskeeper or security guard will let you in the world of the plantation era, an era marked by the wealth and grandeur of the owners and the bitter labor of the slaves.
You can try day and evening cruises abroad the Calico, a 17m wooden ketch named after Jamaica’s famous pirate, Calico Jack. It sails from Margaritaville on the Montego Bay waterfront.
Moreover, you can enjoy the round-trip from an additional vessel, the Calico B as well. What’s more, you can re-live the adventures of the notorious Calico Jack on the Calico Pirate cruises, where our on-board story-teller captures your fantasy.
An utmost rejoicing and surely unforgettable experience awaits for you at our natural Dolphin Lagoon. You can meet these intelligent, friendly, playful mammals face-to-face and can even swim together with your dorsal friends in the sea, of course life jackets and an education session are provided beforehand. The only resort in the Caribbean to offer this fascinating experience is Half Moon, its Dolphin Lagoon being one of the most popular attractions since its opening in 2003. Make reservations prior to or upon arrival, you simply cannot leave out this amazing adventure!
If you dream about relaxing in a swaying hammock, while the sound of the crystalline sea nestles you, make your dream come true at the Horizon Cottages, at Sea Ranch or Rasta Ranch. Only a fifty minute drive from the bright lights of Montego Bay, but a world of peace, where you will experience real Jamaican living.
From here you can easily find the Memorial of Peter Tosh, one of the original members of Bob Marley and the Wailers. You can take a kayak and go deep in the waters, you will be surprised by the variety of exotic fish. And if you would like to enjoy some authentic Jamaican food, go to Robert’s and chat with the locals. You will feel you belong here.
Montego Bay and its area wait for you, to have a time of relaxation, to have a time of adventures, to have the time of your life.
