The city of Palermo happens to be situated in the southern section of Italy. The city of Palermo is also the capital city for the Sicily autonomous region (which is amongst the 20 autonomous regions that are part of Italy) and also for the Palermo Province (which is amongst the 120 provinces that make up the country of Italy). The city of Palermo is located in the north western side of Sicily Island and also in the proximity of Palermo Gulf which is part of Tyrrhenian Sea.

As per the census of year 2007 the population for the city of Palermo was around 667000 inhabitants of which around 1 million were those who were living in the metropolitan region of Palermo which is also known as Greater Palermo Region. The jump in population for the city of Palermo has been around 2.9 percent between the years 2002 and 2007 whereas during the same period the jump in population for the for the country of Italy was around 2.6 percent. This reflects that the city of Palermo has controlled the growth in population in much better fashion when compared to the growth in population which the country of Italy as a whole hasn’t been able to do.

As per the census of year 2006 around 98 percent of the locals in the city of Palermo were Sicilian or Italians. Amongst the rest a major chunk of the population were descendents from South Asian countries, European countries, and North African countries.

The summer season in the city of Palermo is very hot and dry but this doesn’t mean that the surrounding temperature is unbearable. It is worth enjoying a long holiday even during summers. During winters the climate for the city of Palermo is mild with wet surroundings. The winters aren’t very cold and hence this season becomes the best time to visit the city of Palermo.
