Galway, that’s harbored in the west coast of Ireland, is a city that still marvels with its jewels of culture and heritage. The name ‘Galway’ spells vibrancy, festivity, and celebration in the minds of the people acquainted with and loving this city. Galway is nicknamed Ireland’s cultural heart and for the purists out there it’s Croi Culturtha nah Eireann. Galway is the third largest city of Ireland and has seen great progress in recent years promising some further developments in the near future.
When it comes to sightseeing, there are a host of options that one could twiddle with.
Let’s kick-off with the mode of transport:- the city is well connected having all means of transport and most part of it can be best accessed on foot; however the cruise is hard to resist.
Placed in the center of the city is the Eyre Square, a major meeting place. Another major square is the Spanish parade, located beside the Spanish Arch. The Galway City Museum should be a must stop for art enthusiasts. It is home to some of the greatest works of art in the 20th century along with depicting the glorifying heritage of Galway.
The architecture of the city, its hotels, and the magnificent churches are truly awe-inspiring. Galway cathedral, Lynch’s Castle (the finest medieval house in town!),the National University of Ireland, Hotel Meyrick and Church of Ireland St. Nicholas Collegiate Church (one of the oldest in the city) are a few names to mention.
Galway has around 51 venues for the plethora of events that lighten ups the city round the year. The Galway sporting heritage isn’t far behind either- the races of Galway are spoken of worldwide among enthusiasts. Not long ago, in 2007, it was crowned the eighth sexiest cities in the world!
