Some years ago a usual night out in Delhi was a trip to the movie house for the latest Bollywood flick. But with the perking up of the local market, economy things have begun to be more and more liberal - at least in terms of the city's nightlife.

Going head to head with Mumbai

Delhi acts fast to accommodate all the need of the tourists who drop by this Indian capital. One of the things the city has transformed is its nightlife. It has become at par with the most happening cities in India such as Mumbai. This only shows how fast Delhi has been progressing since its exquisite and epical ancient times.

However, most of the streets in Delhi are deserted past 11 in the evening, most of the bars lounges discos and coffee houses in some parts of the city are still open. In fact, some of them are now open for 24 hours.

The crowd says it all

The best way to learn about the crowd of Delhi is in several bars and discos where the wealthy and the trendy satisfy their instincts. They are always up to some form of enjoyment; of course without losing track of the charm of their culture. Somewhere past 9 pm is when the crowd in Delhi starts to rock. Some of the places you might want to visit in Delhi for a good nightlife are:

Djinns - This pub at the Hyatt Regency has live bands and DJs. It was named after the partygoers in William Dalrymple's 'City of Djinns.' They serve a lot of drinks and cocktails along with impressive Mediterranean and Lebanese specialties such as shawarma and grilled tuna and chicken. The interiors are plastered with American rock band posters. Live bands play most of the evenings.

  Shalom - An upscale bar and restaurant with an  exquisite Mediterranean feel inside is perfect for a lovely night out. Get to enjoy lounge music and exotic cuisine and beverages inside hand-plastered interiors and handsome wood furnishings. It has a very upscale clientele and getting a seat reservation is necessary.

Turquoise Cottage - The place is a haven for lovers of the 80's rock music scene. Located in Qutab Minar area, the place, with a friendly and casual atmosphere, serves Chinese and Thai food. The interiors have turquoise walls and floor tiles, wrought iron furniture and contemporary furnishings. You can enjoy a bevy of Asian cuisine from dim sum dumplings to steamed vegetables wrapped in wontons.

  Rick's - This spot has an easy going but nevertheless elegant tone to it. Due to its pricing and ambience, this is commonly considered as a business bar. Make a reservation and make sure you arrive past 9 pm. The selection of cocktails and liquors here are surely remarkable. Rick's boasts a collection of Irish and American drinks and Southeast Asian cuisine.

After the hustle and bustle of a busy day, try out Delhi's bustling nightlife. Most bars and discos are intensely expensive especially those situated inside five star hotels, but there are other places as well where you can spend and enjoy your nightlife of color, music and gastronomy while in Delhi.
