Nyiregyhaza Sights and Landmarks Guide, Hungary
The city has its share of beautiful tourist spots. These attractions are composed of museums, religious sites, parks, lakes, zoos and public baths. Nyiregyhaza Sights can be classified further into Historical Sites and Recreational Sites.
Nyiregyhaza Sights – Historical Sites
Historical sites in the city include museums and religious architecture. These Nyiregyhaza Sights does not only show the rich history of the town but its cultural heritage as well.
Sosto Open-Air Village Museum. This is one of the most beautiful attractions of Nyiregyhaza. The open-air museum is composed of architectural settlements of the people in the region during the medieval ages. The structures came from different villages and it includes exhibits of the customs, folklore, and crafts from early times. The museum also occasionally hosts cultural events.
Greek Catholic Episcopal Palace. This religious site has a Secession-style structure that was built in 1908. In its courtyard stands a Byzantine-style chapel built in 1981. The site contains Greek Catholic Episcopal Archives and Greek Catholic Ecclesiastical Art Collections.
Josa Andras Museum. This is considered the major museum in Nyiregyhaza. It houses the life and works of Josa Andras, the writings and furniture of Gyura Krudy, and paintings of Gyula Benczur. The museum also houses local archaeological artifacts and local historical literature. It also has fine arts and applied arts collection.
Nyiregyhaza Sights – Recreational Sites
Recreational sites of the city are composed of parks, public baths and other leisure spots. These Nyiregyhaza Sights will surely give delight and relaxation to visitors.
Nyiregyhaza Animal Park. This is the first and biggest zoo in Hungary standing on 24 hectares. The animal park houses about 1000 animals - 150 of which came from five different continents. The animals are cared for in an area similar to their natural habitat and are grouped into four themes:Tropics House, Arctic, Carpathian Basin, and Africa Panorama. One of the most popular animals in the zoo is the snow-white polar bear.
Elmenyfurdo. This is one of the newest water parks in the city. This public bath has three different sections. First is the Thermal World that is similar to a typical bath house with warm waters. Second is the Fun World where the pools have artificial waves and there are slides with different lengths, curves and sizes. Last is the Children’s World with pools for kids.
Salt Lake. This is one of the most famous attractions of Nyiregyhaza extending approximately to 9.5 hectares. The lake is divided into two parts - an area which goes in the direction of the town is utilized for the lake baths while another is headed for the north used for rowing.
Nyirplaza. This is a nice place to visit for purely recreational purposes. Nyirplaza is a shopping mall located on the outskirts of the city center. It includes a multiplex movie theatre, wide range of shops, a bowling alley, and a food court.
Nyiregyhaza Sights provide knowledge about the history and culture of the city. In addition to that, they also give enjoyment and entertainment.
