Toulon is a city located on the coast of France, in between Nice and Marseille. It lies to the west of French Riviera, and is southeast of Provence. This is a very important city of France that is renowned for its naval construction, wine making, tobacco, electronic equipment, aeronautical equipment, paper, printing, shoes, armaments and fishing.
History says that Toulon is the military city from where Napoleon experienced his first crack at victory during the Italian war. This is a city that is centered on the sea, mainly because of its proximity with the sea. There is not much to say about the city as it is not very attractive, however there are lots of things you can do in its surroundings.

There are about 300,000 inhabitants in Toulon. When in Toulon, don’t forget to visit the plage du mourillon which can be very crowded in the summers. Besides this, visit the three mountains Faron, Mont Come and Coudon which are located around Toulon, so that you get to see the beautiful views they offer of the sea and the surrounding countryside.
Basically, Toulon is the military port of the most important naval center located on the France’s Mediterranean coast. You can find the French naval aircraft, Charles De Gaulle and her battalion in Toulon too. In fact, the French Mediterranean Fleet itself has its base in Toulon.

The climate in Toulon is a typical Mediterranean one where you find lots of sunshine that is accompanied with hot and dry summers and occasional rains. However if and when it does rain in Toulon, it rains heavily. On the contrary, the winters in Toulon are rather mild.
Surrounding places to visit
The surrounding areas worth visiting while in Toulon includes the little town of Hyeres which leads you to the islands of heaven Port Cros and Levant. To the north of Toulon lies Collabrieres where you can find lots of chestnut and also go for a walk through the marquis. To the west of Toulon lies the provincial and medieval village, Le Castellet.

The cuisine in Toulon is typically Mediterranean where the specialities include fish soup or bouillabaisse, aioli that is a sauce made from garlic and basically dishes comprising of sea products. There are many other famous dishes of Toulon, which are better tasted than written about.
