Cairo happens to be the largest city of Egypt and it is also the capital of Egypt. Cairo isn’t the official name of the capital of Egypt and the official name of this city is Al - Qahirah. This is used due to the influence of Egyptian Arabic language in Egypt.

The inhabitants of Cairo are called as Masraweya. Cairo shifted from ruler to ruler and lastly it was under the British rule when Egypt gained independence during the year of 1922. This is when Cairo became the capital of independent Egypt.

Cairo comes in position number sixteen when it comes to most populous metropolitan cities of this planet. It is a mix of various times of historical monuments. Planet Mars is called as Ares in Greek and was said to be related to destruction. Mars was officially called as Al Najm Al Qahir in those days and hence Al - Qahirah got its name.
