Zagreb Sights and Landmarks Guide, Croatia

The city if Zagreb happens to be a major crossing point for tourists who travel from the Adriatic Sea to Central and Western Europe. This becomes an important reason why many tourists regularly spend some time in this city and enjoy various tourist hot spots. The administration of Zagreb has been quick to add some famous tourist attractions to the city and this has helped the city grow in terms of tourism. Croatia has faced plenty of wars during its past but since the chain of wars ended this city of Zagreb has been successful in attracting around 0.5 million tourists on annual basis.

Do remember to enjoy the beautiful view of Zagreb, the Kupa and the Sava valleys, and the famous region called Hrvatsko Zagorje from the top of Medvednica Mountain. The highest peak of this mountain is around 1000 meters and it is called Sljeme.

The famous International Festival for Animated movies (called as Animafest) is organized every even year in this city, thus if you are lucky you can enjoy the atmosphere this festival creates.

As a tourist you can also visit various villages that are located on the slopes of Šestine, Medvednica, Remete, and Gračani. These villages are famous amongst the tourists for maintaining their historical traditions which include Šestine umbrellas, various gingerbread products, and the folk costumes.

Ban Jelačić Square is one of the very important points in this city of Zagreb and towards the north of this square lies the historical part of Zagreb. You will surely be surprised to see the huge number of historical monuments. This section is composed of the two major parts of Zagreb namely Kaptol and Gornji Grad. It also has a bunch of churches built in the past, many art galleries which preserve the cultural art of Zagreb, museums, various palaces which help you understand the lifestyle the rulers lived during those years, and various governmental buildings which are famous due to the historical architecture which has been used in building them. This historical center of Zagreb is located very close to Ban Jelačić Square and one can even walk to reach it.

Some of the historical hot spots in this city are Stone Gate, St. Mark’s Church,Municipal Museum of Zagreb, and Ban Josip Jelacic Monument etc.
