Vinkovci Travel Guide – Geographic Position and Population
Vinkovci is situated in the eastern part of Slavonia, only 12 miles from Osijek being the largest town in the county called Vukovar-Srijem. There are around 40 thousand citizens, and most of them are Croats. The Bosut River crosses the town making it more attractive.

Having a rich culture, very well expressed by the the existing cultural monuments, the city of Vinkovci reveals its valuable culture in the form of events too. Such a well known event is the folk music festival named “Vinkovci Autumns” that consists of a folklor show with original folk costumes of the region, many competitions including a beauty contest and an original sausage making contest. “All is well that ends well”, this seems to be the message that a magnificent parade brings to the public at the end of the festival.
When talking about food and sausages it is worth mentioning the idea of the locals to break the exiting Romanian record at preparing the longest sausage in the whole world. They succeeded in preparing a sausage that measured 530 meters and it was presented in the town of Vinkovci as part of the project entitled “Come to Vinkovci”. It seems to be an original idea that underlines once again the importance of tourism in the citizens’ lives as it is in every corner of Croatia and in everybody’s way of thinking.
In the end together with wine, doughnuts and other goodies, the longest sausage in the world was entirely eaten by the citizens of Vinkovci.
Culture deals with the local Music School too, as it is part of an educational process that started in the 18th century and developped continually since then. Today, there are many schools, cultural institutions, a centre of scientific work, an Academy of Science and Arts, an economic branch of the academy and the first academy in the Balkanic area.

If you want to do something to relax, it would be a good idea to stay in a Roman thermal bath after wandering on the crowded streets in the centre of town. Hunting and fishing are also organized in the southern part of the town while other sports clubs await tourists to stop by and have fun.
