Rijeka Nightlife –Bars
Rijeka nightlife can begin on the Korzo, with classic café bars, such as El Rio, with antique brick arched ceilings or Hemingway, located in an Austro Hungarian building. Near St. Vitus’ Church, there is a Celtic Café Bar, on its walls artworks can be admired. Something to eat might be a good idea before dancing and drinking and you may do so at a pub called Gric and Guc, with dishes of meat, seafood and vegetables.
Beer lovers may enjoy their favorite drink in places like Rijeka Pivnica or the more expensive Belgian Beer Café.
Where to go clubbing depends very much on the type of music you enjoy. Very close to the center is Palach, named so after the Czech dissident student who set himself on fire as a sign of protest against Soviet invasion in 1968.This is probably the best place to listen to rock music. Those enjoying alternative styles can go to Stereo Dvorana, which also has a concert hall. House and techno can be heard at Fun Academy, especially if you are on your way to Opatija, you must have a stop there. When you choose your bar for the sake of the view, you may go to Karolina, which is an architectural achievement and you may enjoy the sight of the ferries and of the quays. Rijeka also has Irish pubs and a Buddha Bar, called Opium Buddha Bar. Despite the name, drugs are not a problem in Rijeka (or not a big one).If you feel the night is ending too soon in the city, you may always take the bus and go to nearby Opatija.
Rijeka Nightlife - Restaurants
For those enjoying a more classic night or feeling the need to rest from all the sound and the movement, a restaurant or a calm pub are the right choices. You may go to Arca Fiumana, which is rustic, with a boat style design. There you can taste pasta specialties, goulash or prosciutto.
People with smaller budgets or not willing to eat so much can go to Nebuloza or Na Kantunu, close to the shore, both offering snacks and light meals. Local dishes can be served at Stari Grad, Municipium or Bonavia. Look on the menu for specialties like buzara, sarma or kulen. Continental Telephone numbers are available for all restaurants and it is recommendable to book a table in advance.
