The city is also surrounded by majestic mountains and is close to rain forests, coffee plantations, waterfalls, volcanoes, and great beaches. If you have time, you might go surf board shopping, because both the Pacific and the Caribbean coasts are as less than 75 miles apart.

When you reach San Jose, Costa Rica one of your first destinations might be to visit The National Theatre and The Melico Salazar Theatre.  These acting and dance groups, as well as orchestral musical presentations are played throughout the year.

There are several museums and attractions that offer an additional way to explore the city. One of these unique places is the Gold Museum.  This museum offers an unique view of different gold artifacts of the ancient, historic civilizations.

 

Another attraction for people enjoy the outdoors is the Lankester Botanical Gardens at the outskirts of San José. The garden sits on 27.2 acres and is home to over 3000 species of plants, principally epiphytes, including orchids and bromeliads. Now how beautiful would that be?

 

When you are craving some foreign tasty cuisine, check out La Cocina de Leña. If you’re adventurous, you could try some of the more unusual dishes, or just average steak and seafood dishes on the menu. There's more seating on the veranda and in the gardens in the front and rear, if you would like to enjoy the view.

If you want more excitement for your dining experience, you might consider Sand Live.  This is really a rather large bar and concert venue, that rock and heavy metal concerts and shows. You can go out in the sand and have a drink with your partner, while listening to the rock bands play all night.

 

There are some cafés in the downtown area, located in the Central Mail building, where national coffee is prepared and served in typical Costa Rican way.
