Puntarenas Sights and Landmarks Guide, Costa Rica

If you find yourself in Costa Rica but you are not sure where exactly you want to go, you may want to start off in Puntarenas. Puntarenas is a beautiful province in Costa Rica which has miles and miles of beautiful white, sandy beaches and amazing people. You cannot go wrong while choosing a beach in Puntarenas. These beach towns are generally very small, but they have all the necessities such as fun under the sun, small souvenir shops and artisans, restaurants and bars and much more.

Surfers particularly like Puntarenas because the waves from the Pacific Ocean are amazing. Plus those who love to see these great waves crashing into the shore are going to be amazed by the beaches of Puntarenas. There are so many to choose from that you may want to spend a few days in one beach and then head over to another because each is unique.

Some of the favorite beaches in Puntarenas include Malpais, Montezuma, Santa Teresa, Tambor and Jaco. These beaches are all very relaxed and the first three are a surfers dream come true.

The beauty about these beaches is that there aren't large five star hotels that distract from the areas actual beauty. You will get to hang out with the locals which is an experience that cannot be replaced with a resort. However, if you love resorts then you may want to check out some that are on the Tambor Beach (or Playa Tambor) in Puntarenas. Most of these hotels have all included rates which are great for people who may be traveling on budget but want to have a luxurious experience.

While in Puntarenas and staying in any of these areas, you will be able to take tours of the surrounding jungle or go on fly fishing and sports fishing trips. There is also the Isla Tortuga (Turtle Island) to visit where you can get to by boat and see the giant Costa Rican turtles come onto the shore to lay eggs or to watch the eggs hatch and the little turtles go off to sea.
