Shenzhen, China - Overview
Shenzhen is an economical hub of China, situated in the Guangdong province. It has proximity to Hong Kong and has very close business, trade, cultural and social links with Hong Kong. It is the Southern China’s major financial center. The cityscape and industrial revolution is the result of the vibrant and economical developments in this city. Shenzhen headquarters some of the most important companies of the country.
Since the late 1970s, the investors have invested more than $30 billion to building factories and business infrastructure in this city. Shenzhen is China’s most successful and special economic zone. It is the second busiest port of the country after Shangai.
Shenzhen was singled out by the Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping and the establishments in this city were started in the 1979. Shenzhen and Hong Kong share the same culture and both the cities are located in the same economic zone.
After the economic reforms in this city, it became the main city in the Pearl River Delta region. Shenzhen is one of the five most important economic zones of China. Deng Xiaoping is credited with opening up of economic revival in Shenzhen.
The municipality of this city covers both urban and rural areas. The average temperature of this city is 22.4°C. There are tropical cyclones in the summer season. The city was initially a mountainous area however after the economic reform, major landscape changes occurred in this city.
Since then the city is now expanding peripherally and hills in the surrounding areas are now being toppled over to make more land available for construction and more development.
The nearby areas of this city are Hong Kong, Dongguan and Zhuhai. The economic zone comprises of Nanshan, Yantian, Luohu and Luohu. The city has been in the development since the establishment of SEZ.
Shenzhen has been the fastest growing city of China since the last 30 years and its population is over nine million inhabitants. Shenzhen has mixed type of people including highly educated, skilled workers and people with poor education. About 20% PHDs of the country are working in this city.
Shenzhen is also famous for its tall buildings. The Shun Hing Square is world’s ninth tallest building. There are 23 buildings of 200 meters height.
The current tallest building of this city is Kingkey Finance Tower, which is currently under construction and will be completed by year 2010.
Shenzhen has a lot of attractions for the tourists from all over the world. Some of the major tourist attraction places in Shenzhen are Splendid China, Chinese Folk Culture Village, Xiaomeisha Beach Resort, Minsk World, Lizhi Park, Lianhuashan Park and the Dameisha Promenade.
