Dacca Nightlife, Bangladesh

Dacca, Bangladesh is an interesting city, with a strong cultural background.  Bangladesh is an Islamic country; therefore if you want a beer, you may need to head to the Dhaka Shreaton, one of the five star hotels.  You also can find some beer at the Red Button or Shalimar restaurants, located in Farmgate.  These restaurants are only open until 11:30 p.m., but they also offer some great food, including kabobs.  Be prepared though; the alcohol can be expensive. 

A couple of other places to find a drink are Sakura and the Hotel La Vinci.  Most of the bars that attract tourists in Dacca are inside the five star hotels.  Dress is varied, depending upon the hotel’s standards for the bar.  Check with the front desk to find out what is appropriate for where you staying.

Restaurants, however, abound in this city, and you should have no difficulty locating one that fits your preferences.  The Red Shif is a popular restaurant, known for its atmosphere.  There is live music and a couple times a week the restaurant offers movies.  The food is really good as well.  You can also locate some great local restaurants throughout the city and truly experience the local fare.  The food in Bangladesh can be spicy so be aware before you purchase something you might not like.

There are also many street vendors and shops, serving curried veggies and meat stews.  There are also the normal Western fast food places, but you may prefer to check out the local cafes.  These cafes are very abundant and serve until the wee hours of the morning.

On a safety note, Bangladesh is not known for being very safe at night, so be sure to pay attention to your surroundings and stay with another to ensure you have a fun and safe night.
