Dacca History, Bangladesh
Dacca (famous by the name of Dhaka in local language) is the capital city for Bangladesh and is considered to be a very important city for Asia even though Bangladesh comes is considered to be one of the poorest countries on this planet. With a population of over 12 million the city of Dacca is considered to be the biggest market for used cars when compared to all the cities of Asia.
The history of Dacca dates back to seventh Century C.E. It was this time period when small settlements had started to show up on the land on which today Dacca is situated. The first kingdom that ruled the city of Dacca was Kamarupa which was a Buddhist kingdom of those times. By ninth century C.E. the control of this land was in the hands of Sena dynasty.
Mughal started to rule the city during 1608 C.E. and this was the time when this city faced extreme developments. The remains of various monuments and mosques built under the Mughal rule are still visible in the current city of Dacca.
Soon the British East India Company took control of the city by 1765. Although the city lost its population during this war still its importance never died down due to its proximity with the city of Kolkata, which was the capital during the British Rule.
Dacca was named as the capital of East Bengal when this state of East Bengal was created somewhere in 1946. After the Indian Independence the East Bengal went under the control of newly formed country Pakistan. Although the western Pakistan (the current country of Pakistan) enjoyed its independence to an extent still the eastern Pakistan (the current Bangladesh) just couldn’t enjoy there freedom. Huge wars between the hindu and the Muslim took place with short intervals and multiple revolts rocked the eastern Pakistan after its independence.
The famous leader Sheikh Mujib started a movement against the Pakistani government on 7th March 1971. This movement attracted over 1 million participants and by 26th March Bangladesh was declared to be an independent country. Pakistan did try to gain back the control over Bangladesh but Indian Army intervened and finally Pakistan lost against the Indian Army. It was 16th December 1971 when finally Bangladesh was recognized as independent country and Dacca as its capital city.
