Graz happens to be the capital city for Vienna which is one of the many federal states in the country of Austria. Graz is famous for being the hub for most of the students of Austria considering the fact that it has around six government controlled universities and around 45000 students studying some course or the other in this city. It also happens to be one of the few cities in Central Europe whose historical architecture has been preserved very well even in this age of modernization. Same is the reason why UNESCO tagged it as World Cultural Heritage Site. It was also the cultural capital for Europe during the year 2003.
Graz is located on River Mur in the south eastern region of Austria. It is situated around 200 kilometers from Vienna which is a journey of 2 hours by car and 2.5 hours by train. The nearest urban center for Graz is Maribor which is part of Slovenia. This is located around 50 kilometers away from Graz.
The climate of Graz is somewhat Mediterranean due to the presence of Alps Mountain which acts as hindrance and shields the city from various winds. As a result Graz experiences less amount of rainfall and many extra hours of sunshine. Huge amount of air pollution is present in Graz due to various vehicles which are regularly being bought by locals. Average annual temperature for Graz is around 9.4 degree Celsius while the average annual rainfall for Graz is around 800 mm. Around 90 days are such when the city experiences rain. On the other hand Graz experiences around 1900 hours of sunshine.
As per the census of year 2006 the population for Graz was around 250000 inhabitants. On the other hand population for the agglomeration of Graz was around 320000 inhabitants. One should remember that this population doesn’t include the huge chunk of students that regularly migrate to the city so as to take admission in various courses.
The city of Graz has been gifted with a complex system of bus routes and around six lanes of tram routes thus making it easy for you to commute from one corner of the city to the other without even owing a car. Airport of this city is situated around 10 kilometers from the heart of the city and a railway station is located at walking distance from this airport.
