Adelaide Nightlife, Australia
Initially regarded as a conservative and strait-laced area, Adelaide now has a more active and extensive nightlife than ever before. A number of lively dynamic nightspots and restaurants have opened up the past few years to further liven up the nights in Adelaide.
Dining the Night Away
Adelaide presents a variety of good eateries in every corner to suit any type of craving and appetite.
The street of Gouger has its line of international restaurants that go well with any budget range. This area is often full on the weekends. Some of the high end restaurants are also located on Hutt Street, while a lot of alfresco cafes and restaurants are seated on Rundle Street.
On the northern part of Adelaide, visitors can find a diverse number of small restaurants and cafes. Along O’Connell Street are the various take-aways, pubs, cafes and bakeries and restaurants to choose from.
In Adelaide’s Norwood suburb area, The Parade offers several shopping havens and sophisticated dining venues. The Jetty Road and Mosley Square in Glenelg, the Stuart Road and the King William Road areas are places where guests can come across great cafes, pubs restaurants and coffee shops.
For those on a budget, Adelaide visitors can try Raj on Taj that serves inexpensive Indian food, or the Café de Vili, which serves pies, pastries and full meals as well.
The Regent Thai offers excellent Thai dishes while the Nu Thai goes for the more adventurous Asian menu. Favorite Italian eats can be enjoyed in Amalfi on Rundle Street and Fellini in Northern Adelaide. Cravings for Indian delights can be satiated in restaurants like Jasmin and Chefs of Tandoori.
If it’s an evening of dining splurge, Adelaide has a list of fine dining venues. Enoteca offers superb Italian food along with servings of local and Italian wines. The Manse is a French contemporary restaurant with an intimate ambiance. The good food, wine and the view of the stars- all these complete the Magill Estate setting. A dinner overlooking the vineyards and tasting the estate’s wine produce is pure indulgence.
Pubs, Bars and Nightclubs Galore
The main night spot locations in Adelaide are within the streets of Rundle or the “East End” and Hindley or “West End.”
The Crown and Anchor just off Rundle Street is often referred to as “The Cranker.” Mixed crowds gather here for a sip of beer and all-night fun.
Worldsend is a lively pub that features live jazz and funk and house music. It caters mostly to students of the nearby university.
If it’s an old-school pub, Exeter is one friendly place you can visit. Students and visitors alike enjoy the small restaurant and music venue with live bands.
The Cumberland Arms located adjacent to Hindley Street is now a cozy spot for the night out. An entry through the front bar reveals a dance floor within and an outdoor area on the sides.
Across “The Cumby,” the Grace Emily is the other spot on Hindley that offers great cocktails and drinks plus a dose of great sounds from local bands.
The Zhivago bar and The Archer pub lure the young twenty-something crowds. The First, located in Richmond Hotel offers a club atmosphere on weekends and a more relaxing cocktail venue on weeknights. The Fumo Blu is also a favorite cocktail lounge on Rundle Street.
The HQ, also called “Heaven” and “Heaven II” is regarded as Adelaide’s largest club. Mars Bar is the city’s only gay club, although straights are welcome as well.
A Night of Arts and Casino
Guests can have a night of subtle entertainment like theater productions and art performances at the Adelaide Festival Center and the Arts Theatre. Her Majesty’s Theatre also features musicals and stage performances regularly. Guests can also choose to have a casino night-out experience in Adelaide Casino at the Hyatt.
