There were a few organized trips from which we could choose during our stay. The first we chose was the trip to the Meteoras.

The Meteora is a complex of six monasteries which are built on natural sandstone rock pillars. It is said that more than 20 monasteries were built, beginning in the 14th century. These six which remain are: Great Meteoron (or Transfiguration), Varlaam, St. Stephen, Holy Trinity, St. Nicholas Anapausas and Rousanou.

We arrived to the Meteora at noon. It was a sunny day, so the temperature was very high but we didn't feel it because the wind blew quite intense. A serpentine road leads to these interesting buildings which is not wide enough when two buses meet in a curve. So our bus driver sounded the horn every time we reached a curve to announce the other vehicles that were approaching... this was really funny :)

After a short walk we arrived to Varlaam monastery. We knew the we won't be the only ones who would like to enter but we were shocked when we saw how many people were standing in line on the stairs which led to the entrance. If I remember well we stood there about 45 minutes. The entrence fee was about 6 euros per person. Every girl or woman who wore short skirts had to take a long one offered at the entrance.

The monastery was nice with many old things used in the past by the priests living here. There were exposed old books and clothes, too. But the best part was the landscape which we could see from the terrace.
