Maracaibo Sights and Landmarks Guide, Venezuela
The second largest city in Venezuela and the capital of Zulia State is the lovely city Maracaibo. The city is also known by the nickname ‘La Tierra del Sol Amada’, which means the beloved land of the sun.
The best time to visit Maracaibo is between December and April, when the season is dry. In summers, it becomes very humid. The city gets heavy rain falls between June to September. The general weather of the city is hot and humid and sometimes oppressive. Most of the places remain close in the afternoons for siesta as the average temperatures remains around 30° C.
The Maracaibo city has a number of beautiful tourist destinations. The Maracaibo Lake, famous for its oil-rich Maracaibo Basin is one of them. There are various museums and galleries such as the MACZUL, the Lia Bermudez Art Centre and Conoce tu Puente Museum. The Theatre of Fine Arts is also a fabulous place to go to.
Enjoy the place and do lots of shopping from the various shops along Calle Carabobo. You can get some good stuff depicting the regional craft. You can also go to the Vereda del Lago Park, a beautiful park with a lake.
Maracaibo is famous for many delicious local dishes. Some of the most popular ones are Hervido that is a soup made with meat and vegetables and empanadas, which is a meat preparation and Parilla Criolla that is the marinated beef preparation. Another soup liked by the locals is the Chipi-chipi soup that is served with grilled or smoked fish. The favourite dessert is Merengada that is prepared with mixed fruits, milk and ice.
