Longview Travel Guide, Texas
The city of Longview happens to be part of two different counties namely Harrison and Gregg. Both counties are situated in the state of Texas. Although the city is part of both counties, in reality the major partof the city is situated in the Gregg County and only a small porting of the city is part of the Harrison County. It is situated in the proximity of many national level highways that increase its importance. The major highways are U.S. Highway 259, U.S. Highway 80, and the Interstate 20. On the southern side of Longview lies the Sabine River. The city is also the commercial hub for the famous Metropolitan Statistical Area of Longview.
The city of Longview is surrounded by many smaller cities like Lakeport, White Oak, Diana, Harlton, Hallsville, Ore City, Gilmer, Gladewater, and Kilgore. It is around 40 miles away from the neighboring city or Tyler which is almost similar in size. Some of the incorporated areas around the city of Longview are Longview Heights, Judson, Pine Tree, Greggton, and Spring Hill.
As per the census of year 2000 the population of Longview was around 73,000 inhabitants, living in around 28,000 houses. 70 percent of the total population were Whites, 22 percent were African Americans, 0.5 percent were Native Americans, 0.8 percent were Asians, and rest other different races. The per capita income for the city is around $156,000 which is actually great when compared to many other cities in the United States.
Winters in Longview are mild thus making life easy for the locals. Rarely does temperature go below 20 degrees Fahrenheit and rarely does it go above 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Spring season is the wettest season. Summer season happens to be very hot and dry, experiencing considerable humidity. This is the time when you might not want to visit the city of Longview.
