Garland, TX US - Overview
The great city of Garland is situated in Dallas County, Texas, USA. It is situated in northwest of Dallas and within short distance from Dallas-Fort worth Metroplex. It is named Garland after Attorney General Augustus Hill Garland. It is ranked as tenth-most populous city in Texas.
The settlers began arriving in this area in 1850. Two main communities emerged in the areas of Embree and Duck Creek. Both these areas merged together to form Garland. In 1920, the local businessmen financed to fulfill the power requirements of this area. In 1927, a tornado hit this city and destroyed most of its area killing several people including the former Mayor Nicholson.
In 1930 businessmen from various parts of the United States began to settle in this area. Garland witnessed Industrial and economical boom during this period. During World War I, many aircraft plants were established in Garland to supply the aircrafts in the War. In the 2000s, Garland had many major developments and major commercial and entertainment centers like Firewheel Town Center, Hawaiian Falls, Bass Pro Shops, cultural centers, theaters, corporate offices and many entertainment spots.
Garland has a lot of points of interests and tourism sights like Pace House, The Plaza Theater, Patty Granville Arts Center, The Garland Opry and Historic Downtown Garland. Some of the major parks and recreational centers in Garland are Hawaiian Falls, Rowlett Creek Preserve and Mountain Bike Trails, Lake Lavon, tributary to Lake Ray Hubbard, Lake Ray Hubbard and Firewheel Golf Park.
Garland is also famous for hosting many live performances by artists in theaters and cultural centers. Many residents of Garland got national and international recognition including Amber Dotson, LeAnn Rimes, Mookie Blaylock, actress Crystal Bernard and NFL placekicker Mac Percival.
