Garland History
Despite a devastating tornado in 1927, the 1920’s and 1930’s were a decade of change for Garland. Besides the reorganization of the volunteer fire department, the city also received electricity. The settlers began arriving in this area in 1850. Two main communities emerged in the areas of Embree and Duck Creek. Both these areas merged together to form Garland. In 1920, the local businessmen financed to fulfill the power requirements of this area.
