Martinsburg, PA US – Overview: Land Where Six Nations of Indians Lived
Martinsburg is a small city located in the Blair County of Pennsylvania. The population of this city, which is a part of Morrison Cove, was calculated at 2,236 after a census was conducted here in 2000. It is an integral part of the Altoona Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The borough of Martinsburg covers an area of 1.6 sq. km, where there is an absence of any water bodies.
How Martinsburg came into being?
The land where Martinsburg currently stands is a part of the area, which was purchased by the Penn family from ‘Six Nations of Indians’. Logan, a Cayuga Indian Chief, played a major role in closing the deal. Previously, the Indians called the region the “Big Cove” or “Great Cove”. In 1770, the city was named "Morrison’s Cove" after James Morrison, its surveyor. In 1785, 1,500 acres of land were surveyed for John Brumbaugh. This is the site where Martinsburg is located today.

As per the 2000 census, Martinsburg had an overall population of 2,236, which contributed to 892 households. Population density of the city was 1,370.4 per square km. The median income of a household stands around $27,000.
