Durham Sights and Landmarks Guide, North Carolina

Durham is a beautiful city in the state of North Carolina. It is regarded as the fifth largest city in North Carolina. It originated in 1853 in search for a suitable railroad depot between Raleigh and Hillsborough. Durham is a center of African-American community. Durham is a city of vibrant culture and glorious history. There is much to explore in this city.

It is also regarded as the best tourism spot in the state of North Carolina. Some of the most popular points of interest in Durham include American Tobacco Trail, Nasher Museum of Art, Sarah P. Duke Gardens, The Streets at Southpoint, Catsburg Store, Bennett Place, Historic Stagville Plantation, North Carolina Museum of Life and Science, West Point Mill and Durham Athletic Park.

Ninth Street Durham

It is one of the most famous streets in Durham. It features a lot of restaurants and shops making it an excellent shopping point.

Hayti Heritage Center

It was a Greek-revival style church built in 1891. It is a symbol of cooperation between the blacks and whites and Hayti community. The center now serves as a venue for hosting cultural arts and educational programs.

Bennett Place State Historic Site

It is located at the place where civil war ended. A number of exhibits are arranged.

Museum of Life and Science

The Museum of Life and Science offers many opportunities for explorations. It also exhibits the wildlife, data technology, medicine, and aerospace etc.

Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University

It features a lot of artistic work of contemporary art.  It also hosts a number of exhibits throughout the year.

North Carolina Central University

It is located in Durham and it was the first institute to allow Afro-Americans to enroll.

Durham Technical Community College

Students should be 18 to be accepted in this college.  The College provides education in optics, real estate, nursing, vocational and technical fields.

North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics

It is a specialized high school with focus on math and science subjects.

Durham Central Park

It spans over 6 acres and it incorporates the residential and commercial community. There are many historical buildings near the park.

Eno River Association

It features a number of outdoor amenities including wildlife, trees and a park. The park offers a number of activities to enjoy including hiking, fishing, canoeing and camping etc.
