Muskegon, MI US – Overview
Location: Muskegon is a beautiful city located in the Michigan state of the United States. Muskegon is situated at the south western corner of the Muskegon Township. The city has an autonomous form of government and it is also the county seat of the Muskegon County. The city is made up of 18.0 square miles and 14.4 square miles of the total area is land while the other 3.7 square miles is covered with water. The city lies near two large water bodies which are the Michigan and the Muskegon Lake.
Population: According to the demographical survey of the year 2000, Muskegon city was populated by around 40,105 inhabitants. Population density of the city was 2,794.5/ square mile according to the national census. Out of the total population, 59.7% were white citizens. The remaining of the total population was made up by African Americans, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islanders and some other immigrants from various parts of the world. The city has over, 14,569 households and around 31.1% of them have children under 18.
Transportation: Muskegon has effective and efficient public transportation system throughout the city. Muskegon Area Transit System provides well organized public transportation inside and around the city. They operate three trolley routes, nine bus routes and one transmit system for public transport. The Muskegon Trolley Company provides three routes covering north, south and the downtown side of the city. Northwest Airlines provide commercial air service in Muskegon. Lake Express is one of ferry companies offering high speed ferry car from Muskegon to Milwaukee. Many private taxis and mini buses also offer effective transportation service in the city.
Economy: Muskegon has a stable economy and there has been an increase in the rate of production of many industries due to advancement in the field of modern technology. Some of the industries in Muskegon that help in building its stable economy are information technology, manufacturing industries such as iron, copper military equipment and automotive industry. It is also the home of some of the most famous automotive industries of the world.
Weather: Muskegon city has a very cold weather condition during the winter season and the average temperature is about 4 degrees Celsius. On an extremely cold winter day, the temperature may be as low as -10 degree Celsius. The average temperature during the summer months in Muskegon is 15 degree Celsius.
Culture and festival: Muskegon is home to a number of cultural centers and yearly festivals.
