The city of Hayden happens to be a Statutory Town which means that it has an elected Mayor and the Board of Trustees which is comprised of the Mayor and 4 to 6 elected members. It is the job of these people to govern the city. This applies in few cities of Colorado State and the city of Hayden is one of them. The city of Hayden is situated in the County of Routt.

This small city (or rather call it a town) is situated in the proximity of the famous United States Highway 40 and also in the proximity of the Yampa River. Its precise location is right between Steamboat and Craig Steams.

During its early years it was the huge presence of coal mines in and around the city which made this region very important for various businessmen. Soon many miners started to flock the city and the population of the newly created city started to grow. As of today the city of Hayden has small clusters of houses and various businesses which is enough to tag this place as a city.

The name of the town was inspired from Ferdinand Hayden’s name who happens to be a famous man who explored the western side of Colorado during the last few decades of the 19th century.

As per the census of 2000 the population for the city of Hayden was merely 1650 inhabitants (approximately) that were living in around 650 houses. Around 96 percent of the total population were white, around 0.12 percent were African American, around 0.6 percent Native American, around 0.12 percent Asians, and the rest from other different races. The per capita income for the city of Hayden is around $18500 which is similar to many other cities, thus reflecting that the city of Hayden is close, when in comes to strong economical conditions, to many other cities of the United States.

The foundation for the city of Hayden was laid somewhere in 1875 and since then this city has been progressing slowly towards modernization although their growth hasn’t been appreciable when compared to many other happening cities of the United States.
