Manchester Travel Guide, United Kingdom
Manchester, UK - Overview
Caressed by the river Merrimack on one side, Manchester, the world famous City Of Mills happens to be the most industrially developed centre in England, both in the past and now and will remain so in the future.
Manchester’s growth as a busy business and thriving manufacturing and industrial hub was fuelled by the Industrial Revolution that swept through the whole country during the pre-Victorian and early Victorian periods, changing the face of the developing country and its budding industrial town forever.
Manchester was the face and the victorious symbol of a rapidly rising industrially advancing New England that was all poised to take on the world with its might.
Manchester’s multicultural diversity owes its origins to the huge influx of French Canadian workers who were shipped from Québec, Canada to work in Manchester’s ever burgeoning mills and who did not feel the need to return to their home country and made Manchester their home for generations to come.
The city of Manchester thanks all of its growth, flourishing and rising to eminence to The Industrial Revolution and it is the second most important and second largest city in England today, after London.
However, many of those old dilapidated decrepit mills have closed down and they have been revamped and renovated to transform them into seats of education, entertainment, scientific research and development or commerce. Many of these reclaimed and revamped mills are now home to offices, universities, colleges and high-tech centre of excellence.
Manchester is teeming with an ever increasing population that has exceeded 1 million and most people count this city as the largest one in north England. Manchester has two world famous representatives in the form of Hollywood actor Adam Sandler who is a local export and the EPL club Manchester United that commands a phenomenal fan following the world over.
In spite of being an industrial hub of England, Manchester has many places and sights of attraction to offer to its visitors. Some of the more popular tourist destinations that draw hordes of visitors every year are The Peak District, The Peak District National Park, White Peak, South West Peak, Dark Peak, Hope Valley, the picturesque landscape of Derbyshire, Urbis, Old Trafford Or The Theater Of Dreams home to the English Premier League super club Manchester United (captained by David Beckham for a long time), Museum Of Science And Industry, Bridgewater Hall, Chatsworth House/Palace Of The Peak which is home to the Devonshire Duke And Duchess And Cascade.

Take a romantic walk among the bridges and boats of Castlefield. The canals are amazing, especially in the evening, after a good dinner in a nearby restaurant.
