Odessa, Ukraine - Overview
Odessa is an interesting place to visit because like so many of the other cities in Eastern Europe, it is a city of many heritages. There are Russian, Ukrainian, Greek, French and Italian influences in the city and that can be witnessed within the city's architecture. There are so many different places to visit within the city that you could almost do a tour of each particular cultural heritage that Odessa has. It is easy to fill a tour with Ukrainian Odessa and Russian Odessa and it is probably just as easy to find interesting things to do if you want to visit Greek, French or Italian Odessa. This is what makes the city so fascinating and what makes many people come back to the city after they have already been there once.
In the present day, Odessa is a port city in the Ukraine and one of the largest cities in the country. It has a population of just over 1 million people, which according to the census that was done just after the turn of the century places it fourth from the top in terms of Ukrainian cities by population. Its main significance is that it is a warm water port city Odessa of course also has a very booming tourism industry, with tens of thousands of tourists visiting Odessa every single month of the year.
Getting into the city is a relatively easy matter and can be done through a number of different methods. You can book flight to Odessa from other countries in Europe or for other international flights you can go through the airport in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev to eventually reach Odessa. You can also take trains, busses and cars within the city and to the city from other places in the Ukraine and in Europe as well. Odessa is surprisingly well-connected to the tourism centers of Western Europe and for that reason you could easily make Odessa the easternmost stop on a tour across the continent of Europe. The relative low prices in Odessa also make it a very popular resort destination and in particular it has gained a reputation as being one of the best spa and salon centers in the entire world.
This is but a glimpse of all of the things there are to love about this city, but it should be sufficient to illustrate to you the main point that Odessa is indeed a bona fide tourism destination on the world stage.
