The city of Nan happens to be a very quiet city. It is situated in a valley of Northern Thailand. The city of Nan is situated around 700 kilometers from the famous city of Bangkok and stretches over an area of around 12000 square kilometers thus making it one of the largest cities in the country of Thailand. The major districts which make up the city of Nan are Na Mun, Ban Luang, Mae Charim, Thung Chang, Tha Wang Pha, Chiang Klang, Pua, Na Noi, Wiang Sa, Muang, Phu Phiang, Song Kwae, Chaleom Phra Kiat, Bo Klua, and Santisuk.
The population for the city of Nan is around 24000 which makes it a less crowded city and hence one of the favorite places to visit. Surprisingly as per the census of 2005 the population for the city of Nan fell down to around 20000 inhabitants thus reducing the crowd level even further. The city of Nan is located right in the center of the province which has the same name, Nan. The city of Nan is actually the administrative capital for the province of Nan. This city also covers the major region of Mueang Nan district which is called as tambon Nai Wiang. This region stretches over an area of around 5.5 square kilometers.
The locals of this city are said to be descendants of Lan Changs (also called as Laotians). It was their early forefather that used to settle in the nearby district of Pua which is still very rich in terms of soil thus making it the ultimate place to settle down and do farming. This happened around 700 years ago.
The famous River Nan flows in the proximity of this city thus water supply is never a problem. Although the city of Nan is considerably small, it has plenty of hospitals, educational institutes, commercial centers, and administrative centers. This is the reason why the city of Nan is tagged as the administrative capital for the province of Nan. Along with the busy commercial life the city of Nan has a unique charm.
