Tourists will never be bored in Koniz. Its lush surroundings invite everyone to kick back and relax. There are centrally located swimming pools here, which are very kid friendly and the River Aare is also a good place to swim during the summer season. On Gurten, guests would be able to ride a cable railway that goes right to the pinnacle. There are several attractions for kids here and on certain lucky days, one could witness a captivating panorama of the well-known Alps.
Nature Areas
For tourists who want to get close to nature, they should head off the southern section of the Gurten. They would be able to find there a tiny valley called the Koniztali and it offers a nature trail that would provide intriguing information about the local flora and fauna. Another option for nature enthusiasts is to visit the municipality’s forest called Konizbergwald. It is perfect for a leisurely walk by oneself or people could also have a relaxing stroll here with their loved ones.
Cultural Sites
A historical landmark in Koniz is the Ruine Bubenberg. This is also sometimes referred to as the Neu-Bubenberg Castle, which was most likely built during the 13th century by the prominent von Bubenberg family. The castle was surrendered back in 1338 and the edifice decayed evidently during the 15th century. There are still some exposed ruins of the keep and this is significant for the people of Koniz. Because of the 1996 castle ground purchase, Koniz had really started developing its cultural sites. In the vicinity of the municipality’s church, one would be able to find the Haberhuus, which is a modest cultural center in Koniz. This is where travelers will get to watch cultural shows as well as concerts.
Religious Centers
Some religious sites in the community are the Reformed Church, which is situated on the castle grounds as well as the Catholic’s St. Joseph Church. Both of these sacred spots are also considered to have cultural significance in Koniz.
Parks
Just recently, on August 6, 2008 to be exact, the municipality of Koniz had started constructing a park measuring 36,000 square meters in the area of Dreispitz in Liebefeld, Koniz. With its vast size, it could hold around 5 football fields. It will be open in the summer of 2009 and people could expect to see trees, a huge pond, and a playground once it is launched. There is no name yet for this park that is due to open on August 2009 and there is an ongoing competition to come up with the park’s name.
Koniz wants to be known for its charm as well as for their deeply-ingrained culture. They have many other things planned for this fascinating municipality to further attract tourists in the coming years.
