This year, if you imagine yourself enjoying your holiday on a hot sandy beach tasting a refreshing cocktail under a huge umbrella, listening to the “music “ of the agitated sea and feeling the breeze cooling your skin, then you should definitely buy a plane ticket to the sunny Almeria. This city brags with one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain, an arid landscape perfect for tan lovers and a rich history in the field of cinema.
Due to its surroundings, many movie directors chose Almeria as the scene of many western movies. The desert of Tabernas represented the point of attraction for many movie makers and now it is famous among tourists due to the films it hosted. It is also here that you can find old churches, Moorish castles and an amazing theater.
Another popular place among Almeria Sights is the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Naural Park. It is of volcanic origin and the area including the town of Carboneras, a mountainous range and a long strip of coastline is protected by UNESCO.
Almeria, Sights – Museums and Memorial Houses
The amazing past of this exciting city is revealed in the Almeria Museum, whose building is still under renovation for a short period. However, the local authorities decided to move the entire exhibition from the Prehistoric till nowadays to the Provincial Public Library"Francisco Villaespesa". The EU citizens have free entrance, but the cost of a ticket is only 1,50 euro. Please be aware that as it happensin many other museums, you will find all doors closed on Monday.
Literature lovers will be fascinated by the Museum of Contemporary Art Manuel Campoy, where they will admire an initiating exhibition about the wonderful character Don Quijote de la Mancha. They will not only have a concrete perspective of their imagination, but will also admire the wonderful work of painters such as Picasso, Miro and many other Spanish artists. Unfortunately, this place is closed from 13:00 to 17:00 during the week and at the weekend, so make sure you avoid these periods.
Other wonderful and unexpected attraction in Almeria are the historic streets dating back to the 18th century. You will most certainly encounter amazing buildings bearing the traces of the agitated past. You will immediately recognize the Moorish military architecture with its characteristic features such as the circular towers and the enormous fortresses.
