Jaroslavl: A Place of Old Churches and Monastery
Jaroslavl or Yaroslavl is one of the Russian towns selected for Twin Township and it is in the way of many highways, waterways and railways. This city has a World Heritage Site and many culturally rich monuments, palaces and churches. Yaroslavl has many churches, about 20 which are as old as 300 to 500 years. Some of them are Archangel Michael Church, Epiphany Church, Church of Elijah The Prophet and Nicola Rublenny Church. These are well known for their architectural beauty. In regards to these, The Church of Saint John, the Baptist is unique and has 15 domes that are decorated by the excellently designed frescoes. Another important collection of artistry details can be found on the walls of Uglich and Pereslavl-Zalesski.
The Kremlin (fortress in Russian) of Rostov cathedrals, towers, which are on the Lake Nero, will stupefy you with the medieval art. Here you will forget modern Russia. In the centre of Yaroslavl there is an old monastery that dates back to the 12 -13th century known as Spassky Monastery and the oldest building is Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral. There is also one library that has seen the discovery of the Russian Epic, “The lay of Igors’s Host”. One can also see the old Tolga Nunnery, which exists when Mongols invaded Russia and is across the Volga.
On visiting Yaroslavl, you can find more interesting things in the museums. Spassky Monastery has one museum that has excellent collections of antique icons which are 300 to 400 years old, art, crafts and historical manuscripts. Yaroslavl Fine Arts Museum has an excellent collection of the following artists: Aivazovsky, Savrasov, and Repin etc. There is a private museum of musical instruments, clocks, and golden icons, which is “Music and Time”.
Apart from this, City History Museum, House cum Museum of Sobinov, Folklore Museum in Rostov the Great and satirist Nekrasov’s Literary Memorabilia Museum are some of the other spots of tourism that are worth seeing.
